Big Oil Discovery in Sindh OGDC Strikes Again

Tando Allah Yar, Sindh – August 2025
Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has successfully discovered more oil in Sindh province. The discovery was made in the Chakar-1 exploration well, located in the Tando Allah Yar district.

Key Highlights of the Discovery

Drilling at the Chakar-1 site started on June 2, 2025, and reached a depth of 1,926 meters, targeting the Lower Goru Formation, a known oil-bearing zone.

Oil Flow Test Results

To confirm the oil presence, OGDCL performed a Drill Stem Test (DST) in the B-Sand layer. They used an Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) to measure the oil flow. The well produced:

  • 275 barrels of oil per day (BOPD)

  • 32/64-inch choke size

  • 400 psi wellhead pressure

These are promising results showing strong potential for future oil production.

More Oil Possible in Lower Layers

In addition to the main test, OGDCL also found oil signs in the Lower Ranikot Formation. A second test using ESP is currently in progress to check for more hydrocarbon (oil and gas) potential in that layer.

What This Means for Pakistan

This new oil discovery is another positive step for Pakistan’s energy sector. It will:

  • Help reduce oil imports

  • Boost national energy reserves

  • Encourage more investment in local oil exploration

  • Create jobs in the energy and drilling sectors

Final Thoughts

OGDC continues to lead in Pakistan’s energy development with yet another discovery in Sindh. As more results come from the Chakar-1 site, the company is expected to confirm even higher potential for oil production.
