In a disturbing turn of events, the Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) uncovered a large-scale illegal operation involving donkey meat during a raid in the Tarnol area of the capital. Acting on intelligence reports, officials raided a hidden facility where more than 50 live donkeys and approximately 1,000 kilograms (25 maunds) of processed meat were seized, sending shockwaves across the city.
The raid, led by senior IFA officials, was carried out to protect public health and uphold food safety laws. According to an IFA spokesperson, the Director of the Food Authority has ordered immediate legal action against all individuals involved in the illegal trade. Authorities are now focusing on tracing the distribution network to find out where this meat may have been supplied.
Deputy Director Dr. Tahira Siddique confirmed that a foreign national was apprehended at the site and handed over to local police. She emphasized that an investigation is underway to identify how far the meat may have spread through Islamabad’s food markets.
